US food maker Dang Foods is launching a line of onion chips, available in store from this month.

The company, known for its coconut chip products, said that the chips will be available in four flavours: sea salt, salt-n-pepper, chipoltle garlic and applewood BBQ. The chips are vacuum fried onion slices made using “minimal ingredients”. They are vegan, gluten-free and low in sodium.

“The new Onion Chips are an unprecedented culinary delight that will surprise Dang fans and new customers with their bold flavour,” said Vincent Kitirattragarn, founder of Dang Foods. “By taking an unexpected vegetable, like onions, and turning it into a snack that everyone will enjoy, we are pioneering a new, good-for-you-snack category and delighting consumers by re-inventing whole foods into Dang-worthy healthy snacks.”

Onion Chips are available throughout the US in family-size packages for US$4.99.
