Danone has confirmed it plans to shut a yogurt factory in the US, with the French group saying the closure will help its production efficiency in the country.

The company is to close the facility in Naugatuck, a town in the north-eastern state of Connecticut, by the start of March next year.

The factory makes products under the YoCrunch brand, which Danone acquired in 2013.

“The changes in production locations will increase production efficiency across our existing network of plants in the US,” a spokesperson for Danone’s business in North America said. “The planned plant closure in Naugatuck will lead to the transition of production of YoCrunch yogurt products to sister facilities within our production network in the US.”

The spokesperson said Danone would continue to make products under the YoCrunch brand. “Danone North America will continue to produce these popular yogurts and will continue to use the wholesome ingredients that make them so widely loved,” he said.
