French dairy group Danone is investing around US$25m in an expansion of a distribution centre in the US state of Ohio.

A spokesperson for Danone’s US division, DanoneWave, told just-food today (10 May) the 250,000 sq ft facility is being built in Minster, adjacent to one of the company’s yogurt production plants.

“The project has been under way for several months and is expected to be completed and operational late this year or early 2018,” the spokesperson said.

DanoneWave was formed as the successor to Dannon, the French company’s US arm, following the Activia maker’s $12.5bn acquisition of WhiteWave Foods.

In February, Dannon confirmed plans to relocate its headquarters from Greenburgh to White Plains in New York State for an undisclosed sum.

The company said key factors in the decision included “the development of a modern, flexible workplace that will fully leverage technology, enhance collaboration, and align with the company’s unique culture and global brand”. The company said the new HQ would include its “innovative accessory food laboratory”.
