Louis Honore said that the dairy giant viewed China as a particularly appealing market, having recently entered into a joint venture to manufacture milk powder in the country.

“The Chinese market is very interesting for us. China is the largest market in the world in terms of the number of consumers which makes it strategically appealing,” Honore said. “We will be looking at future growth opportunities in this market.”

In terms of other Asian markets, Honore said that Arla has a very small export business. “Vietnam would be an interesting market for the future but we have no plans right now to move into this market.”

According to Honore, there is little or no link between Arla’s increasing interest in Asian markets and the collapse of Middle Eastern sales due to the Islamic boycott of Danish products after the publication of cartoons depicting Mohammed.
