Danish supermarket chain Kvickly, which is owned by Danish retail store chain Coop Danmark, is to lay off 400 employees.

Kvickly’s managing director Jan Neilson said the job cuts were a result of lower-than-expected sales in Kvickly stores in the first four months of 2003, reported the Danish News Digest.


The job cuts are part of a cost cutting programme aimed a boosting Coop Danmark’s annual earnings by several million Danish crowns.


Sales at Coop Danmark’s other retail chains, including Superbrugsen, Fakta and Kvickly Xtra were higher than expected in the first four months of 2003.
