Denmark-based ingredients group Danisco has set out its sustainability strategies for the future in its 9th annual sustainability report.

The firm said today (24 June) that it has transformed its strategy, setting out “more ambitious” targets including a focus on producing ingredients that reduce the sugar and fat content in foods in a bid to tackle obesity.

Targets include a 10% reduction in energy consumption per revenue by 2020, a 20% reduction in renewable energy, and a 20% reduction in water consumption, also by 2020.

The report entitled Ingredients for Sustainability also highlights the challenge of wasted milk in developing countries due to lack of refrigeration.

“Our journey towards sustainability has demonstrated significant business value,” says Jeffrey Hogue, VP corporate sustainability. “The launch of our new strategies will allow us to further embed sustainability in everything we do.”
