Spain’s Ebro Foods is to start producing gluten-free pasta in the US.

From the start of 2016, the company’s Ronzoni gluten-free pasta will be made at its site in Memphis, which is a gluten-free facility. The products, launched in 2013, have so far been imported but Ebro has spent around US$20m on adding two lines to the factory.

“Being able to make our Ronzoni gluten-free products close to home will allow us to continue producing high-quality gluten-free pastas and adds flexibility to react to consumer trends – such as making new pasta varieties – and meet increasing demand for gluten-free options,” Paul Galvani, senior vice president of marketing at Ebro US arm New World Pasta, said.

New World Pasta, which Ebro acquired in 2006, makes pasta under brands including Ronzoni, San Giorgio and Light & Fluffy.

Ebro’s  other subsidiary in North America is branded and own-label rice supplier Riviana Foods. The business makes rice under brands including Minute, Water Maid and Blue Ribbon.
