Double-digit growth of Ebro Foods’ US rice brand Minute has prompted the Spanish company to double the production capacity of the microwaveable rice products.

Ebro’s Tennessee-based 400,000 square foot processing and packaging plant began operations in 2010 and the expansion is expected to be up and running by the last quarter of this year.

“Part of our requirements for the US market is currently being sourced through our parent company Ebro Foods in Spain,” said Riviana’s president and CEO, Bastiaan de Zeeuw. “However, due to a significant increase in demand for various Ebro companies’ ready to serve products in Europe as well, available production capacity there is becoming tight, justifying an additional investment in the United States.”

There are 16 different varieties in the range, including the four latest additions – Organic Brown Rice, Organic White Rice, Organic Red Quinoa and Brown Rice with Garlic, and White & Red Quinoa.

Ebro’s Houston-based subsidiary Riviana Foods is North America’s biggest manufacturer of branded and own-label rice products and the second largest pasta producer.
