Ebro Foods is to increase the production of its microwaveable products to meet what the Spain-based company said is growing demand.

Last month, Ebro’s US arm said the company would double the production capacity of its microwaveable rice products at its site in the US city of Memphis.

However, a spokesperson for Ebro said the company plans to invest in two plants, with another in the Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera set to see production increased.

“We have increased a lot our sales in this category, i.e. in Spain, sales are growing 40%. We have to amplify production capability in order to meet the market demand,” an Ebro spokesperson said.

The microwaveable products Ebro offers includes a SKU such as rice, legumes and quinoa.

In April, Deoleo, the Spain-based olive oil supplier, has sold its last remaining rice business asset in the country to Ebro Foods for EUR1.9m (US$2.1m).
