Nestle has invested CHF26m (US$29.2m) in the expansion of its ice cream factory in Egypt.

The facility, located in one of the company’s largest ice cream markets, will see the introduction of some of the most advanced food production lines of any of Nestlé’s ice cream plants, it said.

The plant, located 30km from Cairo, produces ice cream for local distribution as well as for export to north-east Africa – to countries including Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, and Tunisia. It also manufactures super-premium Mövenpick products, exported to Malaysia.

Nestlé has been selling its products in Egypt for over 100 years. The investment in new manufacturing lines will help meet growing demand for Nestlé and Dolce brands, the company said.

Further significant investments are planned in the coming years to develop the factory’s mixing, processing, chocolate coating and cone filling equipment, Nestle added.

Nestlé operates three factories and seven distribution centres in Egypt, and employs around 3,000 people.
