Emmi has launched YoQua, a yoghurt also containing quark, in Switzerland in a bid to tap into consumer interest in protein.

The four-strong contains yoghurts with either 8g or 10g of protein, 2g of fat and up to 10g of added sugar.

“Proteins are fashionable, for a variety of good reasons. Because they make us feel fuller, protein-rich foods are an ideal snack,” the Swiss dairy said.

The yoghurts – available in original, blueberry, peach and raspberry flavours – go on sale in Switzerland this month.

A spokesperson for Emmi said the company was considering taking the product into international markets.

“At the moment, there are no concrete plans for an international rollout. But we are currently examining for which of our foreign markets this concept could be suitable,” the spokesperson said. “This means that such a product would not necessarily be launched under the Emmi umbrella brand and with the name YoQua, which is a combination of yoghurt and quark and therefore quite German. However, an international rollout certainly would not take place in the first half of 2015.”
