The Office International des Épizooties (OIE), the world animal health organisation, has warned that the livestock disease bluetongue has spread throughout southern Spain and has now broken out in Croatia.

The OIE has announced a total of 177 new Spanish outbreaks amongst cattle and sheep, in Cadiz, Malaga, Ceuta, Huelva, Badajoz and Caceres provinces. It has also announced eight outbreaks amongst cattle near Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Meanwhile, the OIE has noted a suspected outbreak of infectious salmon anaemia at a fish farm in South Uist, the Western Islands, Scotland, which if confirmed would spark a complete cull and a serious threat of transmission to other Scottish salmon producers.
