The EU food industry has been asked to comment on proposals from the European Commission to improve food quality, labelling and certification systems within Europe.
In a green paper, Brussels called for detailed comments on possible tightening rules for food quality certification schemes, for instance, to “avoid the risk of consumers being misled” by associated labelling.
It wants comments on whether the geographical origin of all foods should be labelled, and how detailed that information should be.
