The EU is set to launch a campaign at the end of this month designed to educate European children on healthy eating and give them the chance to take part in sports and games.
The campaign consists of three travelling roadshows, with characters from the “Tasty Bunch” visiting schools in Belgium, northern France, the UK, Ireland, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland. Each of the roadshows will visit two schools a day over an eight-week period.
An interactive website, competitions and other events will also make up part of the campaign.
“With the growing problem of obesity it is vital to educate children on how to live healthy lifestyles,” a spokesperson for the EU agriculture department, which is financing the initiative, said. “We are reaching out to schoolchildren in a fun, interactive way that we think will really help deliver the message.”
The campaign will run alongside the EU’s School Fruit Scheme and School Milk Scheme.
