The European Union Council of Ministers has agreed to lower import tariffs on a range of food and agricultural products exported from Bulgaria. It is the latest of a series of agreements negotiated between the European Commission and eastern European countries hoping to join the EU. Brussels hopes that liberalising trade in advance will ease such accessions.
