The European Commission has added three new items to its lists of quality food products with protected designation of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indication (PGI) rights.

Hungarian salami, “Budapesti téliszalámi,” Polish cheese, “Wielkopolsky ser smazony” and Polish biscuits, “Andruty kaliskie,” will all benefit from PDI and PGI protection.
The three products will be added to a list of about 800 foods already protected by the EU against misuse and imitation.
To qualify for the tags, which are considered an important sales asset, the products must prove that some at least of their production, processing or preparation is linked to a specific geographical area.
