This was said by the US Food and Drug Administration in May to be present in some foodstuffs exposed to high temperatures.
Now the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has established a working group examining consumer exposure to furan. In a letter to EU food organisation the Confédération des Industries Agro-Alimentaires de l’UE (CIAA), EFSA said it was not interested in identifying particular products containing excess furan, but wanted “data referring to generic descriptions of food/food products, such as instant coffee”.
