The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is reviewing how it discovers and combats emerging food health risks, to hasten effective responses.


 


In an assessment paper, EFSA had admitted it “will need to devote new internal resources for the work with emerging risks”.


 


The agency is also investigating building relationships with outside organisations providing risk alerts, to be quickly filtered by EFSA scientists. If they say an alert causes concern, more thorough assessments would be carried out, either by in house panels or “external expertise”.
