Brussels has added products including Portugal’s Transmontano pork products, Hungarian salami from Szeged and Italian Pecorino di Filiano cheese to its list of protected designations.


Such products can only be marketed using traditional names within the EU when made in their home regions and using approved production methods.


Other products added to the list include Spain’s Cereza del Jerte cherries, Lenteja Pardina de Tierra de Campos lentils and Garbanzo de Fuentesaúco chickpeas.


Loukoumi Geroskipou confectionery from Cyrpus and Slovakia’s Skalický trdelník patisserie products were also given the protected status.
