European farm organisations have attacked the European Commission’s new agricultural reform proposals saying that “everybody in Europe would be worse off” and “only EU’s major trading partners will benefit.”

COPA, the committee of agricultural organisations in the EU, and COGECA, which represents European agricultural cooperative organisations, claimed that the Commission was contradicting itself by defending production subsidies in a recent communication to World Trade Organisation but now proposing to “decouple” payments from production. Also it was going back on pledges to the entry candidate countries by seeking a system different from that they had agreed to join.
COPA-COGECA called on the European parliament and EU ministers to reject the scheme.
