The European Union (EU) has struck a trade deal with Jordan, which will allow EU food buyers to source a range of Jordanian food produce at low or zero import duties.

This includes 1,000 tonnes of new potatoes duty free next year, rising to 5,000 tonnes in 2009; 2,000 tonnes of cucumbers next year – also duty free – rising to 5,000 tonnes in 2009; 2,000 tonnes of virgin olive oil next year, increasing to 12,000 from 2010; along with similarly large quotas for citrus fruits and strawberries and a smaller one for garlic.

In return, a range of EU food exports will also enter Jordan duty free.
