A report from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has recommended that the European Union (EU) further slash production subsidies in the food sector and improve food market access for non-EU countries.

Its advice is part of a targeted selection of measures suggested to bring EU productivity up to American levels.


The OECD said “reductions in trade distorting support” in the food sector should continue to be “be a key priority” in the EU, as well as in Iceland, Japan, South Korea, Norway and Switzerland.


Despite its underlying strengths, the US would also benefit from further agricultural liberalisation, the report added.
