EU: Officials mull testing all Southeast Asian seafood imports
EU officials are due to discuss today [Tuesday] whether full testing on all seafood from Southeast Asia is necessary, after banned drug residues were found in shipments of products to Britain and the Netherlands. An antibiotic drug called nitrofuran was found in samples of warm-water prawns and shrimp imported into Britain from five Asian countries, and into the Netherlands from Thailand, last week.

The drug is banned because of the risk of causing cancer in humans.
