Data has been sent to the European Union’s senior laboratory, in Weybridge, England, where an expert panel will rule on whether the goat had contracted BSE, making it the first confirmed case of the disease outside bovine livestock.
On its own, the case presents no health risk as it was an isolated case and the goat and its herd have not been slaughtered for food. However, depending on the panel’s report, the European Food Safety Authority will be asked to update EU risk controls for goats.
