Figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development show that UK food inflation last year was 8.6%, compared to a European average of 2.2%.


In Germany, food prices actually fell last year – down 0.7% – while in France food costs rose 0.8%.


The US saw food prices rise faster than the European average, but still trailing the UK, at 2.3%.
