A roadmap on regulatory cooperation agreed by the European Union (EU) and the United States at this weekend’s summit in Dublin includes a deal to work together on nutritional labelling, according to documents released by Washington.

The agreement sanctions cooperation between the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Commission’s directorate general for health and consumer affairs.

They will “examine the scope of nutritional labelling, nutrient definitions and energy conversion factors”. Also, they will identify specific areas for cooperation on technical issues such as developing “reference values” in these priority areas.

Regulatory discussions will also be held between the FDA, the European Commission and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
