Mondelez International is to change the recipe of its Philadelphia with Milka spread on sale in four European markets after customer feedback.
The spread available in France, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium will go on sale with a new recipe, now including hazelnuts.
The spread is also on sale in Germany. Mondelez will retain the original recipe and roll out the new line in that market.
“We were very satisfied with the launch of Philadelphia with Milka in each of these countries but what emerged from our customer feedback was the recipe brought out the cheese more than the chocolate. We decided some readjustment was necessary,” a Mondelez spokesperson told just-food. “The new recipe not only sees the addition of hazelnuts but also has a stronger chocolate taste which we believe fits better with customer expectations.”
Media reports in France pointed to a disappointing launch but the spokesperson said the product’s performance in that market “go beyond our expectations. Our aim is to double the number of consumers of the product over the next three years”. The company is retaining the original recipe in Germany as that version was well received, the spokesperson added.
