Precision livestock production involves the processing of information about single or small groups of animals, so that inputs and welfare are matched to achieve perfect return in meat or dairy production.
Data is collected upstream and downstream and is “interlinked,” said a conference note, “to optimise production processes with respect to productivity, animal welfare and environment.”
The system is an offshoot of arable precision farming, where fertiliser and seed inputs match detailed knowledge of field fertility.
