The company plans to completely replace the existing pork slaughtering line and machinery dating from 1987 because the capacity of the existing line is insufficient to meet future needs. The project will also see the replacement of the animal reception facilities and quick carcass refrigeration plant.
The project will last two years and is expected to cost just over €20m (US$24.1m), making it HK Ruokatalo’s largest single industrial investment in Finland for over ten years.
The company said the project will be carried out in stages so as not to disrupt production. The entire new slaughtering line is scheduled for completion in autumn 2005 and the finishing touches in early 2006.
