Brian Mackie has been appointed First Milk’s chief operating officer, the UK dairy co-operative has announced.
Mackie joined the Glasgow-based dairy company in June as a non-executive director
Over the past 25 years Mackie has held the position of chief financial officer with a variety of food, drink and business services companies, including time at spirits business Maxxium Worldwide and soft drinks group Cott Corporation. He has held responsibility for finance, IT, legal, human resources, and commercial operations during his international career.
“Brian has proved an outstanding addition to the First Milk board over the last few months and we have been working very closely together on delivering the turnaround plan for the company,” said First Milk CEO Mike Gallacher. "In his new role Brian will lead the finance, legal and HR functions and also drive our corporate development agenda. He will continue to sit on the First Milk Board and an announcement regarding succession into his Non Executive role will follow."
This announcement follows the recent departure of First Milk’s finance director Gerry Sweeney and chairman Sir Jim Paice in what has been a challenging year for the co-operative.
Paice left in June after First Milk started a "turnaround programme" to revitalise a business that had seen its balance sheet hit by a slump in commodity prices.
