French food group Andros is to close a dairy plant and shed half the workforce at another facility, according to labour union sources.

The FGA-CFDT union said management at Andros dairy division Novandie told staff representatives the Rozet-Saint-Albin plant in northern France, which employs 100, will close.

A further 76 posts are to be axed at Novandie’s plant in Marcillé-Raoul, western France.

Staff had been been told restructuring measures were a result of the stagnant market conditions and also to strategic decisions, “which the FGA-CFDT had repeatedly denounced”, the union said.

The union has called on Andros to do all it can to find a buyer for the plant and ensure jobs be maintained.

Contacted by just-food, Andros and Novandie declined to comment on the claims.
