French retailer Auchan today (26 January) unveiled plans to rebrand its supermarkets, adopting a single, ‘Simply Market’ banner in four markets by the end of this year.

The new banner will be used in France, Italy, Poland and Spain, Auchan said.


The retailer’s 20 supermarkets Russia are to keep the Atak name but their number is set to double by the end of 2009, the company added.


The group said it will invest EUR280m (US$367.9m) in the development of its supermarkets in these five countries. In France alone Auchan will invest EUR100m.


Around 100 out of 286 French Atac supermarkets have already been transformed into Simply Market outlets. Auchan’s aim is to have a total of 500 outlets in France by 2015.
