Italian food group Barilla will next month open a new production line at a bakery plant in France to manufacture sandwich loaves.
Barilla has decided to expand production at its Harry’s plant in Plaine de l’Ain, near Lyon.

A company spokesperson said Barilla would issue detailed information on the investment when the line is opened on 4 June.
However, the spokesperson added: “We can confirm that the new production line will be dedicated to turning out Harry’s 100%-Mie sandwich loaves, principally for the French market but with some export business too.”
Last November, Barilla announced it was investing EUR30m over a three-year period at its Harry’s bakery plant in Montierchaume in central France.
Through that move, Barilla set out plans to transfer production from the company’s plant in Châteauroux, which is earmarked for closure, to Montierchaume, creating one of the biggest industrial bakery sites in France.
