French dairy group Bongrain has said it will close its Paul Renard cheese-making plant in Flony La Chapelle, central France, and transfer production to three other sites by June 2009.

The plant, which has an annual capacity of 8,000 tonnes, manufactures cheese brands such as Suprême des Ducs and Pié d’Angloys, as well as retailers’ own brand cheeses.
“If we going to develop these activities they need to be transferred to more modern sites, a good part of the production equipment at Paul Renard plant being in a very timeworn state,” a spokesperson for Bongrain told just-food on today (13 October).
The 144 staff working at the plant have been offered posts elsewhere in the Bongrain group, the company added.
