French bakery group Brioche Pasquier is planning to build a production plant in the UK.

A senior Pasquier executive confirmed to just-food the group had chosen a site in Milton Keynes for the location of the plant where it has a commercial office. However, planning permission has yet to be obtained.

“We don’t want to say much more about the project which is at an early stage. But given steady growth in Pasquier’s sales in the UK, volumes have now reached a level where we need to produce locally,” the executive said.

“The logistics involved in importing stocks is becoming problematic given our best sellers in the UK – milk rolls and our Pitch brand filled brioche rolls – carry the shorter ‘best before’ dates.”

The executive declined to comment on the size of the plant or how much Pasquier was planning to invest. “It’s unlikely the plant will enter service before mid-2015,” he added.

In Europe, Pasquier has plants in France and Spain. It also production in the US since the acquisition of Galaxy Desserts last year.
