France-based retail giant Casino saw underlying annual sales rise almost 4% during 2007, boosted by its stores in Latin America and Asia.

The company posted a 3.8% rise in revenue to EUR24.9bn (US$36.6bn), with its sales outside France jumping 11.2%.
Same-store sales climbed 13.2% in Latin America, thanks to growth in Argentina, Venezuela and Uruguay, Casino said. In Asia, sales rose 2% thanks to a strong fourth quarter when sales jumped 10.5%.
Back home, sales in France inched up by 1.8% to EUR17.9bn during 2007, boosted by accelerated growth during the fourth quarter of the year.
Casino has taken over the day-to-day running over its Franprix and Leader Price stores in France. The company said the move had “produced results” during the last three months of the year.
