Casino, the France-based retailer, is planning to open around 100 Franprix convenience stores in its domestic market next year.
The company revealed its plans as it announced the upcoming opening of the 700th Franprix store later this month.
The outlet will open on 18 December in l’Haÿ-les-Roses in the southern suburbs of Paris.
Casino’s Franprix stores are mainly located in and around Paris but the company is eyeing further expansion in other major French cities, not just the capital.
Jean-Michel Duhamel, president of Casino’s division that runs its Franprix and Leader Price discount supermarkets, said: “With the growing popularity of convenience stores in major cities, Franprix is becoming increasingly attractive. We have plans to open nearly a hundred stores in 2009, with a goal of 1,000 stores in 2012.”
