French charcutierie firms are poised to gain access to the Chinese market for their products.
It follows a recent trade visit to China by France’s Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, accompanied by Food Minister Guillaume Garot.

A spokesman for France’s Agriculture Ministry confirmed to just-food Garot had signed a draft agreement in Beijing with China’s agency for quality supervision, inspection and quarantine – the final stage before the accreditation of the French charcuterie firms.
“In this draft agreement, the onus is on us to provide every guarantee on sanitary safety and traceability, issues which the Chinese put great emphasis on given that the coutry has been badly affected by public health scandals, notably that concerning melamine in milk,” Garot said.
The green light is expected in the first quarter of next year following the visit of Chinese inspectors next month to the premises of the five French firms to verify production conditions.
The identities of the five companies will not be disclosed before the Chinese inspectors travel to France.
