Coop Atlantique, one of Carrefour’s largest franchisees, has confirmed that it will leave Carrefour to join rival French retailer Systeme-U West.

The group said yesterday (5 April) that it will join the group from the 1 January 2012, with the final agreements set to be finalised.

Carrefour said that following three months of discussions the two groups have not been able to reach an agreement to renew their affiliation contract.

Coop Atlantique owns seven Carrefour hypermarkets, 31 Carrefour Market, seven Carrefour Contact outlets and one Carrefour City. It also operates over 200 supermarkets and convenience stores under the Ecofrais banner.

Carrefour said that as Coop Atlantique purchases directly from suppliers, which means the contract will not have a significant impact on Carrefour’s results.
