French dairy group Lactalis has acquired a controlling stake in Czech co-operative, Moravskoslezske Mlekarny, the parent company of local dairy firm, Mlekarna Kunin.
Based in Ostrava, Mlekarna Kunin last year processed over 100m litres of milk generating a turnover of just over EUR66m (US$89.9m).
The purchase is subject to the approval of the Czech regulatory authorities.
Lactalis also confirmed that it is waiting on regulatory approval for the takeover of another Czech dairy firm, Mlekarna Klatovy, which has a turnover of around EUR22m.
“Once finalised, these two acquisitions, together with the one we made last year, will give us a strong position in the Czech Republic in important market segments such as hard, sliced cheeses,” a Lactalis spokesman told just-food.
