Danone has confirmed that it is considering expanding its processing operations in Bangladesh through the establishment of a second dairy plant.

Danone CEO Franck Riboud reportedly revealed the group’s plans at yesterday’s shareholder meeting, stating that the project would be launched in the latter part of this year.

“This is something we are looking at,” a spokesperson for the French dairy giant told just-food.

Danone’s existing dairy plant, a 50-50 JV held with Grameen Bank, is located in northern Bangladesh. The new facility would also be operated as a JV with Grameen.

The Grameen-Danone JV, announced in 2006, aims to provide “easily affordable” dairy products in Bangladesh.
