Speaking to the French daily Le Figaro, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet said the authorities were waiting on the conclusions of a recently formed body looking into the matter.
She added that a decision could not be rushed, citing the reversal of a decision by German authorities to ban the MON810 corn seed.
In October, French President Nicolas Sarkozy called a halt to the planting of genetically modified (GMO) pest-resistant crops pending the results of a review into the sector.
Sarkozy made the announcement at the closure of a government-initiated national summit on the environment.
