The company yesterday (14 January) posted consolidated net sales of EUR7.67bn (US$10.2bn), up from EUR7.02bn in the same period last year.


Casino supermarkets reported a 1.1% increase in same-store sales, excluding petrol, led by double-digit growth in private-label sales.


In South America, same-store sales rose by 7.7%, while organic growth in Asia stood at 10.8%, primarily due to Big C’s sustained expansion strategy in Thailand.


Sales in France edged up 1.2%, with sales from the group’s Geant hypermarkets dropping 8.4% to EUR1.6bn.

Quarterly sales were up 6.3% for Franprix and Leader Price, reflecting the “revitalised marketing momentum” and the “gradual acceleration of the expansion programme”, the company said.


In the company’s international markets, revenue was up 29.4%, helped by the company’s acquisition of Dutch supermarket group Super de Boer.


Consolidated net sales for the full-year increased by 14.9%. Organic growth stood at 5.9%, outpacing the 3.8% reported in 2007, in line with the group’s objectives.
