Former Wal-Mart executive Vicente Trius is set to join rival retailer Carrefour to lead the French retail giant’s European operations outside of France.
Trius, who announced in November that he was leaving Wal-Mart after 13 years at the world’s largest retailer, will join Carrefour in May as executive director for Europe.
Trius will head up Carrefour’s operations in seven markets – Belgium, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Cyprus and Romania.
“Vicente Trius will bring his vast knowledge of retail and of clients in emerging and mature markets. His management skills and strategic vision of retail should allow Carrefour to pursue expansion in its key European market,” Carrefour said yesterday (18 March).
Trius’s last role at Wal-Mart was as president and CEO of its Latin American operations, which he held for just five months before his departure was announced in November.
The Spaniard took the role in July after being CEO of Wal-Mart Asia.
