French Farm Minister Jean Glavany is set to ask his EU counterparts that the European Union examine imported beef from outside its 15 member states for signs of mad cow disease.

The European Union currently orders that all cattle produced from within its 15 member countries must have tested negative for BSE to enter the food chain if it is over 30 months old. As yet however, there are no guarantees for imported meat produced outside the EU.
The politicians are due to meet in Luxembourg today but no other officials were available for comment.
