In France, sales for the first half of 2005 confirmed the trend seen in Q1, in an environment that continues to be difficult, the company said. The Guyenne et Gascogne group is maintaining its long-term strategy and targeting market share growth by vigorously pursuing its policy to invest on margins and further reducing sales prices for all its product ranges.

In Spain, Centros Comerciales Carrefour has continued to see strong growth, with hypermarkets up +7.7%. The downturn recorded on supermarkets is linked to a scope effect, with certain large Champion supermarkets passing under the Carrefour brand.
