Intermarché is looking to increase the turnover of its production arm by almost 40% over the next five years, the French group announced at the MDD Expo retailer brand exhibition currently taking place in Paris.

The 60 production plants operated by the Pôle Industriel du Groupement des Mousquetaires (PIGM ) generated a turnover last year of close to EUR2.9bn (US$4bn), up 3.8% on 2009. While meat is by far the biggest product segment of the division, ready meals posted the strongest growth (+10.6 %) in 2010.

Turnover from non-Intermarché business rose 26% to EUR427m (15% of the total).

The main element in an “ambitious industrial strategy,” is for PIGM’s turnover to rise to EUR4bn by 2015 with non-Intermarché business accounting for 30% making one of France five biggest food producers.
