Kraft Foods is to axe 123 out of a total of 380 jobs at the Suchard chocolate-making plant in Strasbourg.
A union source said the the company made the announcement at a Works Council meeting earlier this week and that workers at the plant had since been informed of the cutbacks.
Annual output at the plant has fallen from 15,000 to 10,000 tonnes over the past 3 years with some production transferred to Germany.
