A company spokesman told just-food it was too early to comment on whether or not Lactalis would be formulating an offer for Boursin.

The spokesman said he could not confirm a report in the French media, quoting an unidentified company source, who said that while there could be some competition issues to resolve, Lactalis would be looking very closely at Boursin.

At the start of the year, Lactalis acquired Loire-based cheese maker the Fromagerie du Point de la Pierre from Triballat Rians, extending the company’s presence in the speciality cheese sector. However, in May it failed in its bid to acquire loss-making Massif Central-based dairy group, Toury.

This year has also seen Lactalis make acquisitions in the Czech Republic and Croatia.
