Lactalis, the French dairy group, has today (31 March) confirmed that it is acquiring local specialist cheesemaker Poitrey.

The company, which is based near the eastern French city of Besançon, produces the La Belle Etoile brand, a semi-liquid, spreadable cheese product with a regional following.
No price was disclosed for the family-owned firm, which has sales of “around EUR15m (US$23.7m), according to Lactalis.
Earlier this month, Lactalis announced further expansion of its domestic business with plans to spend EUR15m upping capacity its production plant in Vitré, Brittany.
